MSDN website example

Here is an example of the new "Metro UI" look and feel that Microsoft did for its MSDN developer website.
Check out these two before and after photos, and decide for yourself which is easier to read:
  • Before - non Metro UI

  • After - Metro UI

Metro UI Sucks

Microsoft's new "Metro UI" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metro_UI sucks. Here are the reasons why I think it totally sucks:

  1. Font is too thin - With the font being too thin, it makes it really difficult to read when using dark text on a white background. Particularly grey text on a white background. This causes unneeded eyestrain.
  2. Font is too tall - Being so tall, it makes the characters harder to read, not easier. People with vision problems will have particular problems reading it, especially combied with the fact that the font type is too thin.
  3. Trying too hard to be cool - Microsoft's new UI design is trying so hard to be hip, it sacrifices usability in the name of edginess. It's a bad design decision.
  4. Doesn't work on desktop computers - The new UI layout for desktops and laptops doesn't work well if you aren't using a touch screen interface. It simply isn't designed for a mouse and keyboard.
